Mental health in the workplace should be a top priority for UK business owners.

Both the Government and the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) have signalled that mental health in the workplace is a priority. Simply paying lip-service to mental health issues in the workforce is therefore no longer an option for employers.

Employers should have a good mental health strategy in place to deal with mental health in the workplace.

We provide a full-service approach to workplace mental health management, through digital and human-led services.

Placing mental health and safety at the heart of business can help employers:

  • Fulfil your moral and legal duties as an employer
  • Improve productivity and happiness
  • Positively impact profit
  • Support your employees

This page will give a full overview about what Mente offer you and your employees.

Employee’s experience

Employees can log into a private digital tool, 24/7 on any device/browser. Services available to them include: e-Learning, feedback surveys, an extensive resource library, and further signposting.

Click the tabs below to find out more about each service.

Mental health e-Learning

On a private portal, employees will have access to CPD accredited bite-sized mental health awareness courses.

There is one mandatory course, The Introduction to Mental Health Awareness. This is made up of 6 bite-sized modules that will each take about 5 minutes to complete. This course covers the basics of mental health, as well as giving tips on staying well, and signposting to further help if needed.

Employees will also have optional awareness courses on a variety of subjects such as suicide, trauma, and managing financial distress. They can sit these courses if they would like to find out more about these topics.

Our courses are a unique alternative to expensive classroom training.

Ability to give anonymous feedback to their employers

On their private portals, employees have access to a survey that will allow them to give anonymous feedback to their employer about workplace practices affecting their mental health.

Mental health can change at any time, so asking employees to complete a survey once a year might not help you to tackle the underlying issues if caused by the workplace. Having at the moment open-ended surveys allows you to identify any issues that the business may need to address and to track progress on employee experience through monitoring changes in behaviours across time.

Management can view the anonymous feedback on their portal, explained below.

Resource library

Employees also have access to an extensive resource library that covers subjects including, but not limited to:

  • Alcohol abuse
  • Anxiety
  • Bullying
  • Depression
  • Drug abuse
  • Insomnia
  • Resilience
  • Stress
  • What do therapists do?

Further signposting

We also offer further signposting to more specialised services for those who need it.

There are lots of external organisations that can help people who are struggling mentally, but knowing where to start can be difficult.

If any of your employees feel that they do need further help, we offer a national directory of solutions providers on the digital tool.

This means that they know where to turn if they are feeling helpless, and they can access tools quickly and easily.

Manager’s experience

Managers can log into a private digital tool, 24/7 on any device/browser. Services available to them include: tracking of employee progress, feedback surveys from employees, a manager’s resource library, an absence tool, further signposting, easy access to workshops, and e-Learning.

Your employee and manager portals can be whitelabelled for a small fee.

Click the tabs below to find out more about each service.

Tracking employee progress

As explained in more detail above, employees will have access to CPD accredited bite-sized mental health awareness courses on their own private portal.

There is one mandatory course, The Introduction to Mental Health Awareness, which is made up of 6 bite-sized modules. This course covers the basics of mental health. Employees will also have optional awareness courses on a variety of subjects.

On your private manager portal, you can easily track where your employees are up to with their mandatory course modules.

This allows you to keep a permanent record of all learners who have completed mental health training for audit purposes, adding a layer of protection to your business.

Feedback from your employees

As explained in more detail above, your employees have access to a survey that lets them give anonymous feedback to you on workplace practices affecting their mental health.

On your management portal, you can view reports of the anonymous feedback that your employees have given you about workplace practices affecting their mental health.

Then, you can pinpoint the pressure points, and can make the appropriate changes or investigations.

You can also create bespoke surveys specifically for your sector if you wish to do so.

Resources for managers

We offer a downloadable resource section with resources made specifically to support managers.

These documents cover important topics around the subject of mental health in the workplace, such as:

  • How to deal with conflict at work
  • What to do when someone goes off ill with mental health
  • How to support someone coming back to work after they have experienced mental illness
  • How to have difficult conversations about mental health with employees

Absence tool

Absenteeism because of mental ill-health is believed to cost UK employers approximately £8 billion every year.

The managers’ portal also houses a staff absence tool so that you can easily track sickness and its associated costs for your business.

The digital tool allows you to:

  1. Record the number of staff absences at your organisation, breaking it down into mental health and physical health.
  2. Calculate the cost of mental sickness and physical sickness on the business.
  3. Calculate the return on investment for solutions provided.

Further signposting

We also offer further signposting to more specialised services for those who need it.

If you would like to receive support with your own mental health, we offer a national directory of solutions providers who can help you.

Furthermore, if an employee approaches you and would like to know where they can go to get external help, it is important for you to be able to direct them to the right places, and our directory will help you to do this.

Being able to support your employees in this way shows that you value their wellbeing and creates a positive workplace culture.

Easy access to workshop solutions

We give you direct access to workshop solutions with credible national companies, for:

  • Further mental health training
  • Suicide and self harm prevention
  • Trauma stress management
  • Stress management
  • Digital wellbeing courses

These can be easily accessed through Mente and are paid for only if you would like to utilise one.
